Sent Church, Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX, USA

As we begin a new year, Sent Church sets aside 21 days to focus on prayer and fasting. This time allows us to start the year seeking God’s direction for our personal lives and for Sent Church. There are a few ways you can join in:

  • Choose a personal fast.
    More information below.
  • Spend more time in intentional, focused prayer each day.
We’ll help you with a daily prayer focus.
  • Join us for prayer and worship every morning (Mon-Sat) at 6:00 am in Seminar A.
There’s power in starting your day gathering for prayer.

What’s the Deal with Fasting?

Fasting is one of the Holy Spirit’s tools for helping us to experience God’s transforming grace in our lives. This spiritual practice is a gift from God meant to grow us and draw us into a deepening relationship with God. In preparation for this special time with God each month, we encourage you to examine your heart through prayer and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas of sin. As you enter this time of heightened spiritual devotion, be aware that Satan will do everything he can to pull you away from your prayer and Bible reading time. When you feel the enemy trying to discourage you, immediately go to God in prayer and ask God to strengthen your resolve in the face of difficulties and temptations.

Recommended Types of Fasts:*

Selective Fast

This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.

Partial Fast

This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown.

Complete Fast

In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option.

Soul Fast

This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance.

For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
